Create a piggyback song and add your own lyrics to a familiar tune.
What you'll need:
- Dash
- Xylophone
30 minutes

Mission:
Show off your skills as a singer-songwriter with Dash as your backup band. Using Dash’s xylophone and the Xylo app, create a piggyback song based a favorite tune like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” or “Frere Jacques.” Or program Dash to dance while you sing your heart out.
Setup:
-
Open the Xylo app on your tablet. Make sure that Dash’s xylophone and mallet are securely fastened and calibrated before you begin composing your song. To set up your xylophone, press the menu button on the bottom left corner of your screen.
-
Choose one of the pre-loaded songs. Or program a tune if you want more of a challenge.
-
Come up with your own song lyrics. Pay close attention to the meter of the original tune. Try to match the number of syllables in each line with the original song. For example, “Twinkle twinkle little star” has seven syllables, and so does “I love robots. Yes I do.” It may help to write the lyrics from the original song on a piece of paper, leaving space below each line and then filling in the spaces with your made-up lines.

Here is a piggyback song we made up, “We love robots,” sung to the tune of Frere Jacques.
Dash is jamming. Dash is jamming.
To my song. To my song.
Making songs with robots.
Making songs with robots.
Sing along. Sing along.
What tune will you choose?
